Marketing a business is without a doubt one of the toughest tasks that any owner will face. There are multiple tools which can be used, and the majority of them can now be classed as being either traditional or digital. These are the two key areas where business owners will look towards when trying to pick a marketing strategy – but it can be difficult to know which one is most suitable to their needs. To ensure you are completely in-the-know about the two t methods, take a look at the breakdown of them below.

Traditional Marketing

The main benefit you can get from traditional marketing is that it allows you to gain a high reach for your marketing campaign, and it also allows you to be more personal with your message too. Another great aspect of a traditional marketing campaign is that you can choose whether you want a national or local campaign, with the latter being the cheaper option.

Often, the best way to make the most of a traditional marketing campaign can be by doing an advert on a local radio, and then follow it up by handing out flyers around the local area. As mentioned, going traditional allows you to be more personal – so it can be a great idea to use promotional products such as Tyvek wristbands which are branded with your logo, as this gives the customer something to keep and wear.

Digital Marketing

One of the best aspects of digital marketing is that it allows you to be very specific with the demographics you choose to target – and this can ultimately mean that you are guaranteed to reach your target market with your message. When businesses focus on digital, they would almost certainly utilise social media as one of the main tools, as this is often the cheapest and easiest to use. Similarly to traditional marketing, this tool can be used in tandem with other digital marketing tools such as SEO or YouTube to help further promote your businesses message.

Is Either the Best?

It is also worth knowing that both methods have their negatives too. One of the main downsides of traditional marketing techniques is that it is rarely possible to be able to be able to track if the marketing is actually having a direct effect on getting you any conversions. Also, a problem that comes with digital marketing is that with social media and YouTube, customers bad feedback can be seen by other potential customers – which will have a bad effect on your business.

Taking all of this into account, the best way for a business to market their business would be to use both techniques in the same campaign. This would help to overcome any pitfalls which both can make a business a fall into. A great way to this may be running a campaign on social media which explains if customers come into the store wearing a wristband with the business logo – they will get a discount. The wristbands can be a traditional direct marketing technique and would only go to customers who see the digital marketing campaign too.
