In today’s post I will talk about link building strategies, which consists of getting links to our page. Link Building does not only consist of other sites linking to you (external links) but also you linking to your own posts from within similar blog posts (internal links). Before we start building external links we must always make sure our blog navigation, internal links and user experience is good. This allows Google to crawl the pages and content, and makes it much easier for the robots to find your pages.
Types of links
There are two types of links. Do you know what they are? (Hint: I mentioned them above)
Internal links consists of you adding links from one page of our website to another, always within the same domain. Internal links improves the user experience and improves the chances of older blog posts being found. A good internal link building strategy allows visitors to go to complementary and related information that may be of interest to them. In addition, it helps the overall ranking of the entire website by sharing its authority. Normally the home page is the one with the highest authority, but if we include internal links, we can pass some of that authority on to other pages.
External links refers to getting links that point to your website that come from other websites. This is the kind of link building I’m going to focus on today. External links have many benefits.
What is the purpose of building external links?
The quantity and quality of external links are two of the factors on which Google ranks your site. That is why having a good link building strategy can help you achieve the desired results at the SEO level. External link building allows us to:
- Increase traffic to our website and position ourselves as experts in our niche while improving our authority.
- Improve our brand image. It gives us greater visibility. In addition, if we create relevant content for our readers we will create a connection with them and when they have a problem they will not hesitate to contact us.
- Ranking higher in Google. Google understands that a page that receives many external links is a page with quality information. If you appear in the search rankings before your competition it will give you more business opportunities and greater recognition.
How to get external links?
If you want to build external links and see results right away, you can start with these simple steps:
- Find people who talk about you or your company and ask them for a link. Do not forget to create quality content for your readers on a regular basis, so you will have recurring visitors to your website that can interact with your content.
- Look for other blogs or websites that have a similar theme to your page and contact them by letting them know about your content. It is important that you have valuable content and it is useful to their readers … Do not spam other bloggers! It is better to build strong relationships with other bloggers in your niche, so you can have access to a larger audience.
- Guest blogging : Guest blogging is a method where you write posts to be published on other blogs. If you have fulfilled the previous point above and you have good relationships with other bloggers of your niche, you can ask them if you can write a post for their blog and include a link to your blog. It works!
Link building myths
Sometimes bloggers come to me with false beliefs on how to create a good link building strategy, Below I will talk about the most common link building Myths.
- Link building myth number 1: if you link pages with a lower domain authority it will lower the authority of your page: NO! While it is true that it is much better to get link from pages with a higher domain authority, it does not mean that lower authority pages will hurt your site. As long as those links are natural and not penalized pages you will be ok. Having many links will always affect your blog ranking in a positive way
- Link building myth number 2: If you get links very quickly, Google will penalize you: it is not true either! If the links are good and they are not spam, Google will not penalize you.
- Link building myth number 3: having more than one link from the same blog will hurt your ranking. Yes it would be a little suspicious if you have many links and they all come from the same page. If that page has good domain authority, it will actually help you rank your page quicker.
- Link building myth number 4: Links that are not related to your niche market are no good. This is also false! Having links from different niches is recommended. In no case will links from other pages will harm your ranking.
